COMMUNITY LED LANDSCAPE MANAGEMENT PROJECT (CLLMP)
The Government of Meghalaya with financial help from the World Bank is implementing the Meghalaya Community Led Landscape Management Project (MCLLMP). The project covers the entire state of Meghalaya and implementation of community-led plans are rolled out in a phased manner throughout the state. The Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) will facilitate community-led planning by providing support, technical inputs and funding.
The project is intended to strengthen community- led natural resources management in selected landscapes within the 11 districts of the state. This would be achieved through a variety of planning, capacity building, and on-the-ground interventions to promote the conservation, sustainable use of natural resources, social inclusion and community mobilization; building traditional knowledge and learning, mapping of natural resources management; strengthening the community institutions and creating linkage with financial institutions and community organizations.
The project interventions will include preparation of community led natural resource management plans. The CLLMP has the following three components:

resources, especially forests, soil and water sources, in a manner
that supports the financial and physical well-being of communities

Jongchetpara Christian Village falls under the Betasing block of South West Garo Hills district in the state of Meghalaya. The village is at a distance of23.1km from Ampati, the district headquarters of South West Garo Hills District and is at a total distance of 376km from the state capital, Shillong. It falls under Nokmaship and the total geographical area is143haand a total population is 311villagers. There are various ways to reach to the village, with majority of the people relying on auto, private vehicle to reach there on a sharing basis.





The district project management unit (DPMU) of South West Garo Hills met with Mr. Tropilson M. Marak the VEC secretary of Village, on the 18 November, 2020 for Ground Truthing. He informed the team regarding the current scenario of the landscape and the natural resource management under his Leadership.
The village has 65 HH. Out of the 65 HH,42 belong to the below poverty line (BPL) category.
It has an actively performing VEC.
Local tree species.
Jackfruit, banana, orange, pomelo, papaya, guava, litchi, coconut.
Bay leaves, betel leaves, betelnuts, black pepper, broom grass.
Brinjal, tapioca, chilli, tomato, pumpkin, neem, green vegetables, yam, ginger, turmeric, mustard.
Rice, corn, (seasonal).
The sensitization programme took place on the 18 November 2020 at the Jongchetpara Christian village LP School. The VEC secretary of Jongchetpara Christian Village, Mr. Tropilson M Marak, presided over the programme. Around 36 community members attended the sensitization program, whereas significant the numbers of the attendees were women.
The external experts of (Social Management) Mr. Ronald Bryan A. Sangma gave a brief introduction on Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA) and elucidated about the various programmes and projects that MBMA is working on, but mainly focused on the Community Led Landscape Management Project (CLLMP). He also spoke about the different aspects and procedures of the project and gave due importance on the objectives of the project and its benefits.
The external experts of (Knowledge Management) Mr. Challang B. Marak spoke on Social aspect of the Community Led Landscape Management Project by giving numerous examples. He also enlightened the various benefits that the community could obtain from the project.
The Program was followed by an interactive session to answer the doubts and questions of the villagers.
The villagers clarified regarding the wages.

2.2 Signing of Documents: After the interactive session, the village signed the EOI, VGA and Green charter followed by the selection of candidates for the Village Natural Resource Management Committee. The Village Executive Committee (VEC) and the entire community carried out the procedure and elected the members of the VNRMC on the same day.
2.3 Formation of the VNRMC
The Formation of the Village Natural Resource Management Committee was done in a public meeting in the presence of the entire village and the CLLMP staffs. The community itself chose the President, the Secretary and the other executive members of the Committee.

The opening of the bank account was initiated after the village signed the EOI (Expression of Interest), the VGA (Village Grant Agreement) and the Green Charter.
A Meeting was also held with all members of the Village Natural Resource Management Committee (VNRMC) of Jongchetpara Christian Village. Mr. Ronal Bryan A. Sangma of the CLLMP team had briefed them before opening the bank account.
The PRA exercise aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of the community in the planning and management of development projects and programmes.
PRA exercise at Jongchetpara Christian Village took place on the 20 April 2021. There were a total of 38 villagers taking part in this exercise who contributed their time and knowledge to this project.
The Community Natural Resource Management Plan was prepared at a village level meeting held on the 20 April 2021. A total of 38men and women from the village, including members of the Village Natural Resource Management Committee (VNRMC) were present to voice their problems and opinion while preparing the Community Natural Resource Management Plan.
Plan Estimate:
The CLLMP Team also made an inspection to the proposed intervention sites of the CNRMP along with Mr Eden Aranchi Sangma,.the Natural Resourse management Programme Associate of the CLLMP is responsible for providing the estimates of the plans.
