Problem Analysis
Problem analysis involves identifying the overriding problem and establishing the causes and effects related to that problem. The FGD conducted with the participants to establish the problems faced by them reveals the following information.
A. Do people have sufficient access to supply of fodder, fuel wood, leaf litter?
Yes. But it is reduced over the years.
B. Has access to timber improved or reduced over the years? How is access for household use and commercial use managed?
Timber access has reduced over the years. Most people have to buy them from the market.
C. Are the water bodies facing any threats?
Some of the water bodies are facing water scarcity especially during dry seasons.
D. Do all people in the village have access to drinking water? What are the challenges?
Some of the people get proper access while some do not get access to such. There is a water scarcity in the village particularly during season. Women and children have to fetch water from a water source which is quite far from their households.
E. Are there degraded areas in the village (open/ degraded forests, mining affected, high soil erosion etc.)?
Yes, cultivable wasteland, mining and soil erosion
F. What has caused this degradation? Are there practices causing threats to availability and access to natural resources?
Soil erosion, mining, agricultural practices are the major cause of degradation.
G. What have been the changes in agricultural practices?
There are changes in agricultural practices. Most are using fertilizers for farming
H. Are there any challenges in farming?
The soil is not fertile. Water scarcity
I. How would you consider the health situation in your village?
It is good as the PHC is in the village itself.
J. How is the situation of cleanliness, sanitation, access to toilets and waste management?
The village is maintaining proper cleanliness and sanitation, and the majority of the people in the village now have proper access to toilets. Cleaning drive is organised at least once a year and the people can manage the waste within their own premises.
As per the findings from the FGD, the main problem that the village face is scarcity of water which has been a difficulty for the residents to fetch water from far distances and this is mostly done by children and women and in turn this has a toll on their health and time. A number of spring chambers have been implemented at this village which has eased the residents of the village in terms of fetching drinking water for daily use.
The RCC Check dam has also aided in storing of water to be used in dry seasons where water is scarce. The availability of water has helped in providing water to the fields making the soil moist and fertile and in turn has increased in the growth of plants.
