Best Village Panchayat category at the 4th National Water Awards

On June 17th, 2023, Mawkyrdep Village in Ri-Bhoi District received the 3rd rank (Joint Winner) in the Best Village Panchayat category at the 4th National Water Awards, 2022, held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi, attended by the Vice President of India. Mawkyrdep Village’s remarkable dedication to environmental preservation and natural resource management earned them this recognition, building on their previous achievements, including the State Award for Best Village in Livelihoods based on Natural Resource Management activities and being recognized as the Best NRM village in Ri-Bhoi District in 2022. Their success is attributed to their participation in the Meghalaya Community Led Landscape Management Project (MCLLMP), supported by the World Bank and implemented by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency, which allowed them to develop and implement a comprehensive Community Natural Resource Management Plan, showcasing their commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable resource management.
