The Community Led Landscape Management Project (CLLMP) implemented by the Meghalaya Basin Management Agency (MBMA), Government of Meghalaya, has been honored with the FICCI National GeoSpatial Award in the “Geospatial Excellence in Sustainable Development” category for its exceptional utilization of geospatial technology. The project, led by Shri Sampath Kumar, IAS, Project Director, has empowered communities by training over 14,000 youths in geospatial technologies, equipping them with GPS devices and mobile applications. These tools have been instrumental in diverse activities, such as natural resource management planning, forest management, spring mapping, payment verification for ecosystem services, demarcating village boundaries, asset data collection, GIS mapping, and more. The project has also excelled in generating GIS layers, conducting LULC change analysis, aerial mapping, and demonstrating cutting-edge UAV technologies. Furthermore, the project’s commitment to youth apprenticeship in geospatial technologies has not only contributed to local capacity building but has also earned it this prestigious award in recognition of its significant achievements in sustainable development through geospatial innovation.
